Visitor Services Specialist

JOB TITLE: Visitor Services Specialist
HOURS: Approx. 25 hrs/week
REPORTS TO: Visitor Services Lead
WAGES: $7.25/hr

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Specialist works with the Visitor Services Department to provide a fun and safe environment for all Discovery Center of Idaho visitors. The Specialist is the primary presenter for all public demonstrations, including daily science shows and birthday party demonstrations. The Specialist is also responsible for front of house customer service, exhibit maintenance, and general customer service.

DUTIES:

  • Perform daily science demonstrations for a public audience
  • Assist with birthday party set-up and perform demonstrations
  • Keep demo areas clean and stocked
  • Support special events by assisting in managing physical resources (rooms, tables, supplies)
  • Ensure facility remains tidy and clean
  • Take direction from Visitor Services Coordinator to task volunteers and carry out daily activities
  • Able to manage cash & registers
  • Monitor activities and exhibits on the museum floor
  • Respond to problems or emergencies
  • Support the systems used by staff and volunteers: computers, registers, credit card machines, printers, etc.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Able to work weekends
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Excellent customer service
  • Must have a positive attitude and enjoy working with the public
  • Able to communicate and work with a wide variety of people
  • Able to stay on one's feet for most of the day; some heavy lifting required
  • Must be flexible and willing to adapt to your environment
  • Must work well in a team
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be able to work outside of regular hours

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience presenting or performing to an audience; both children and adults
  • Knowledge of non-profit organizations
  • Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Suite, Outlook, and general database knowledge
  • Fluent in Spanish -- preferred but not required
